In late May, we had numerous conversations about Latinx high school students applying to college this fall and current Latinx college students. We knew how challenging the college application process was for us and we could only imagine how challenging it will be for students to do remotely, especially for first generation students. We thought about our Latinx college classmates and how many are terrified by the uncertainty of the upcoming year.
We firmly believe that higher education is one of the greatest opportunities for Latinx individuals. Over the summer, we began Latinx Opportunities to help our fellow Latinx brothers and sisters, regardless of where they live. The internet has a lot of valuable information but such information is often scattered and hard to find. We sought to create a website where students would be able to find resources on college applications, financial aid, scholarships, summer programs, leadership programs, professional development, internships, and simply Latinx opportunities all in one central location.
Latinx Opportunities is our way of giving back. We will offer free resources online college application reviews- from personal statements to mock college interviews. For college students, we will offer free professional development resources such as resume and cover letter reviews, interview strategies, and tips on job hunting.
We ask that people share Latinx Opportunities with students who may benefit from our resources.
